Our Returns Policy is Simple

You may return any item purchased from our website for a full refund. Returned merchandise must be in new condition and in its original packaging wherever applicable.

Simply indicate the reason for your return, include the packing slip with your return, and wrap the package securely. For your protection, we recommend that you use UPS or Insured Parcel Post for shipment. If you do not have your packing slip, please indicate the order number on a separate piece of paper. You can also cancel unshipped items by sending an email to Please include the full name on the order, the address, phone number (for cancellation confirmation only), and the order number.

Shoe and Footwear Return Policy

If you need to return or exchange your purchase, please contact the UVA Bookstore Mail Order Department at 800-759-4667 (select the Mail Order option) or email us at for a Return Authorization number. All return requests should be made within 14 days of receipt of order. Shoes returned without a Return Authorization number will not be accepted.

Guidelines for shoe returns:

  • An order number or a copy of the receipt is required
  • Items should be unworn and include all original tags and packaging.
  • Place the shoes in the original shoe box and ship the shoe box back in a separate shipping box (either the original shipping box the shoes came in or a shipping box with no other exposed labels).  Placing the shipping label on the shoe box will result in a denial of refund.
  • All original packaging should be included. Place the shoes in the original shoe box and ship the shoe box back in a separate shipping box (either the original delivery box or a shipping box with no other exposed labels.

  • Exchange Policy

    You may exchange products you purchased from our website within 30 days of receipt. Please include your packing slip or order number along with your merchandise. Please indicate what item(s) you would like in exchange for the item(s) you are returning. Additional shipping will be charged unless the original product is defective or a mistake was made by us in your shipping.

    Refunds Refunds will be made on products purchased within 30 days of receipt. Credit will be applied back to your original method of payment (Credit Card). We will notify you via e-mail of your refund once we have received and processed the returned item. Please note that we can refund shipping costs only if the return is a result of our error.

    Returning Items Received as Gifts

    We will be more than happy to make any necessary exchanges, and/or, issue a merchandise credit for returned gifts.

    Textbook Returns

    To receive a full refund, Spring Semester books must be returned by 1/31/24.

    Law School Spring Semester textbooks must be returned at Courts & Commerce by 1/30/24.

    January Term and Summer textbooks are returnable within 2 days from the first day of class for a full refund. Textbooks purchased after the deadline are Final Sale

    You must have a receipt. New books must be returned in new condition, with no sign of use. They must have no marks of any kind on the covers or inside the book. There should be no underlining, highlighting, scratches or name in the book. The binding must be in an uncracked condition.

  • Shrink wrapped packages must still be sealed.
  • Titles beginning with two asterisks (**) are not returnable.
  • Course packets are not returnable.
  • Sale items are not returnable.

  • UVA Bookstore Rental Policy

    All rental refunds adhere to the UVA Bookstore Textbook Return policy. Rentals are only available to students with a valid UVA ID. Students are responsible for returning rentals by the date specified on the rental agreement, typically the last day of finals.

    They must be returned with all components (i.e. CDs). Shrinkwrapped packages that are rented must be returned with all books that were originally in the shrinkwrap. Writing and highlighting are allowed.

    Damaged books, other than normal wear and tear, will not be accepted. Damage includes, but is not limited to, water damage, missing or torn pages and covers. The University of Virginia Bookstore Management determines what constitutes damaged books.

    For all rentals not returned by the prescribed date, students will be billed a Rental Replacement fee via their Student Charge Account. The Rental Replacement Fee is the new textbook retail minus the rental price. The University of Virginia Bookstore is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

    All rentals must be returned to the store you originally purchased the book from.
