How does IA work for Students?
- A professor chooses course materials.
- UVA textbook sources the material finding pricing and format. The professor then chooses to opt in to IA or to not.
- A student registered for the course will get a message letting them know that they are taking an IA class and have a 2-week period to opt out of IA.
- Opting out does not mean the student is dropping the course but simply choosing to not receive the digital content from the bookstore. The student will have to physically acquire the required material.
- If the student chooses to stay enrolled in the IA program, the student will be automatically charged to their student bookstore SIS account, and the material will show up through Canvas on the first day of class.
- If the student drops the course in the allotted time, they will be automatically refunded to their student account.
- Please know that some IA materials contain coursework programs and homework platforms that can only be accessed through IA materials. Please speak with your professor prior to opting out to ensure you aren’t losing access to external programing.
All students enrolled in courses participating in Inclusive Access are automatically opted in to Inclusive Access.
All students enrolled in courses participating in Inclusive Access are automatically opted in to the program and will be charged so that everyone has access to the materials on the first day of class. Course materials can be accessed through Canvas. If you cannot access your course materials, please let us know. Please also note that the UVA Bookstore cannot process refunds after the add/drop deadline. While the price varies depending upon the platform and content used by the instructor, Inclusive Access prices are lower than the cost of purchasing access directly from the publisher, and average 50% to 70% below the cost of a new, printed text. All enrolled students who have not opted out of the program or dropped the course will have the discounted price billed to their UVA Bookstore Student Charge Account. Students have 30 days to pay their account off from the date of the charges.
Please Note: Charges for Inclusive Access materials will apply if you don’t opt out before the add/drop deadline.
How to Opt-Out of Inclusive Access?
All students will receive a Welcome email and located at the bottom of that email is a link that will take them to their Student Portal where they can opt out. Students can also opt-out through their link in Canvas.
